Postpartum depression in new mothers is becoming more recognized and understood. It has gained some star status with Brooke Shields writing her book about her experience: Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression.
But postpartum depression in fathers is rarely mentioned, and I would suspect that most people have not even heard of it. Sadly, I think it is even more difficult for men, who are less likely to talk about it or seek help.
I just came across a blog post written about one father's struggle with postpartum depression. I hope it helps to raise awareness that this is a possibility and can be really difficult for the father and the entire family.
