A new study shows that children who are active at age 5 stay lean even if they are not as active later in life. They refer to it as a 'banking effect', similar to saving money in a bank account to draw on later.
This bodes well for Owen, that's for sure!
Every 10 minutes of extra activity above the average 30 minutes per day (what preschooler only gets 30 minutes of physical activity a day?) results in a 1/3 of a pound less fat tissue at age 8 and 11. They suggest that all preschoolers should be as active as possible, since it pays off later in life.
I guess the big news for me is the fact that most preschoolers only get 30 minutes of physical activity a day. Owen rarely stops moving, ever!
