BPA Free?

It is hard to trust labels these days...

SIGG was touted by many retailers as BPA-free. I know many people who have made the switch from plastic water bottles to SIGG bottles. But they have just come clean.

The liners in SIGG bottles contain trace amounts of BPA. They have switched to a new liner that is supposedly BPA-free... and if you have a SIGG bottle you can send in your old ones for a new one. Whole Foods is also offering refunds for all SIGG bottles that are returned to their stores.

I, fortunately, made the switch to Klean Kanteen - no liners - hopefully no worries.

Turns out SIGG is not the only BPA-free option that is not fully BPA-free. Health Canada conducted a study of BPA-free baby bottles and found trace amounts in many of them including Dr. Brown's, Medela, Gerber, Nuby, and Whittlestone. There were no detectable levels found in the BornFree and Thinkbaby bottles.

While the trace amounts are considered to be 'minute' and there is some question as to the veracity of the test results, this is concerning to someone who is in the bottle-feeding age.

I guess you just need to do the best you can with the information you have at the time...
