There's been a lot of press about the impact of motherhood on performance following the big US Open win by Kim Clijsters.
Here's one BBC article that reviews some of the current thinking about the benefits of pregnancy.
It suggests that pregnancy might actually improve sporting ability - and gives some examples of returning mothers winning big sporting events. They are quick to highlight that you need to have sporting prowess before getting pregnant 8-)
But what I found even more interesting (since I am far from an elite athlete) is the suggestion that pregnancy sharpens mental agility. This is quite contrary to what I have found. But then maybe I am just blaming my aging memory on motherhood...
If this is true just imagine what my memory would be like if I didn't have two kids!!
As an aside, I particularly like this article that mentions that Clijsters had to time her daughters nap so that her daughter could be there. Now that is true motherhood!!
