This is my first experience blogging and I'm quite excited about the whole thing!
I started this blog for a couple of reasons. First, I have a baby who naps in spurts - she's awake for an hour and then sleeps for 40-60 minutes. I consider myself lucky when I get a full hour. There just isn't enough time during her naps to have a nap myself or start any big projects. But a blog post is doable.
Second, and most importantly, I want to share some of the things I have learned about motherhood and parenting with others who might be facing similar challenges. I don't have all the answers and just because something worked for me, doesn't mean it will work for someone else. But I have always found hearing others' experiences helpful - at least as a starting point.
Also, I am a researcher by nature. When faced with a challenge I do research: I read books; I surf the net; I talk to other parents. I try things until I find something that works for me. I figure if I do all that work, I might as well capture it somewhere and share it with others who might find it helpful.
A bit about me:
I am married to a great guy who actively shares in the parenting and household duties. We have two children, Owen and Alex. Owen is 4 years and 4 months older than his little sister, who was born in April 2009.
In addition to being a mom, I am a consultant in the area of leadership development. I work for a Canadian national firm. I draw on my Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational psychology to assist organizations in developing their leadership talent, through psychometric assessment, executive coaching, and the creation and delivery of leadership development programs. I am fortunate to love what I do.
I hope you will find the postings on this site useful and hope that others will add their experiences and insights. There is real power in the community of mothers and we need to learn from one another.
